Solfest is proud to announce that this year we are working with Anti Racist Cumbria to become an organisation with an anti-racist mindset and ethos, and for Solfest to become an actively anti-racist festival. This means moving beyond a zero tolerance stance on racist language and behaviour – because we’re learning that being not racist isn’t the same as being anti-racist.
Anti Racist Cumbria are a registered charity who exist to tackle and end racism through action and education to create a forward-thinking and actively anti-racist Cumbria; free from prejudice and systemic inequities.
In Cumbria, in the year to March 2022 Home Office statistics evidenced a 28% increase in recorded hate crimes. Sadly a person’s ‘race’ or ethnicity remains by far the most common motivator for a hate crime to be committed, with more than half of Cumbria’s hate crimes are racially motivated.
Anti Racist Cumbria believes that we are at a turning point and that our beloved Cumbria has an historic opportunity to become the UK’s first actively anti-racist county. Together we can ensure that Cumbria works for every person equitably and equally. We can be part of the change for better.
